Very helpful guide

This book has been very helpful for planning my trip! I especially like the tips on etiquette. I always like seeing how other people rate their favorite places along with an explanation so I can decide if those are things that interest me. The descriptions are very detailed and offer lots of good information. The organization of the book throws me off a little, I feel like it jumps around quite a bit in the beginning before it gets to the chapters on each area, but overall it has been an excellent resource.
I appreciate the information on the 2015 earthquake damage. Even though the reconstruction is an ongoing process and hard to describe accurately in print, the suggestions that we check the status of certain places before we plan a trip there are very helpful.

He lectures regularly at various international universities including those in Belgium, the Czech Republic, England, Germany, Italy and Turkey and he is an International Professor at the Russian International Olympic University in Sochi.

Robert Kaspar is the Director of Studies for Sports, Culture and Event Management at FH Kufstein Tirol – University of Applied Sciences in Austria. He has served in a number of mega event organisations, ranging from Expos to World Championships and ultimately as managing director for the Salzburg 2010 Olympic Winter Games bid. He has published widely in the field of mega events in sports and culture and has been a guest lecturer in universities in Croatia, France, Finland, Morocco and Russia.

About the Author
Born in 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana,�KURT VONNEGUT�was one of the few grandmasters of modern American letters. Called by the�New York Times�“the counterculture’s novelist,” his works guided a generation through the miasma of war and greed that was life in the U.S. in second half of the 20th century. After a stints as a soldier, anthropology PhD candidate, technical writer for General Electric, and salesman at a Saab dealership, Vonnegut rose to prominence with the publication ofCat’s Cradle�in 1963. Several modern classics, including�Slaughterhouse-Five, soon followed. Never quite embraced by the stodgier arbiters of literary taste, Vonnegut was nonetheless beloved by millions of readers throughout the world. “Given who and what I am,” he once said, “it has been presumptuous of me to write so well.” Kurt Vonnegut died in New York in 2007.

A longtime friend of Kurt Vonnegut’s, Dan Wakefield edited and introduced Kurt Vonnegut: Letters. Wakefield is the author of the memoirs New York in the Fifties and Returning: A Spiritual Journey. His novel, Going All the Way was made into a movie starring Ben Affleck. Wakefield also created the NBC prime time series, James at Fifteen. He lives in Indianapolis, Indiana.

“One sort of optional thing you might do is to realize there are six seasons instead of four. The poetry of four seasons is all wrong for this part of the planet, and this may explain why we are so depressed so much of the time. I mean, Spring doesn’t feel like Spring a lot of the time, and November is all wrong for Fall and so on. Here is the truth about the seasons: Spring is May and June! What could be springier than May and June? Summer is July and August. Really hot, right? Autumn is September and October. See the pumpkins? Smell those burning leaves. Next comes the season called “Locking.” That is when Nature shuts everything down. November and December aren’t Winter. They’re Locking. Next comes Winter, January and February. Boy! Are they ever cold! What comes next? Not Spring. Unlocking comes next. What else could April be?

“One more optional piece of advice: If you ever have to give a speech, start with a joke, if you know one. For years I have been looking for the best joke in the world. I think I know what it is. I will tell it to you, but have to help me. You have to say, “No,” when I hold my hand like this. All right? Don’t let me down.

“Do you know why cream is so much more expensive than milk?

“AUDIENCE: No.

Good for Vonnegut lovers

If you love Vonnegut, of course you’ll love this. A lot of it will seem familiar, but who cares. A lot of it is repeated. Again, who cares? He is smart, witty, cynical, genius. If you don’t have everything by Vonnegut yet, this should not be at the top of your list, but once you've read everything by him and you want more, get it. It’s not Vonnegut at his best, but even when he’s mediocre, he’s better than most.

What Indeed

This was a quick and interesting collection of speeches given by Kurt Vonnegut, mostly to graduating college classes. Though every speech was different, there were definitely a few repeating themes. Well worth a read, and uplifting for the most part. I enjoyed it and I think some of the ideas will stick with me.

About the Author
Jens M�ller was born in Koblenz, Germany in 1982 and studied graphic design in D�sseldorf. Recipient of numerous national and international design awards, M�ller is Creative Director of optik design studio in D�sseldorf, and editor of the A5 book series on graphic design history. He teaches graphic design history and editorial design as a visiting lecturer at the Peter Behrens School of Arts, University of Applied Sciences D�sseldorf.

R. Roger Remington is Vignelli Distinguished Professor of Design at the Vignelli Center for Design Studies, Rochester Institute of Technology, New York. He has lectured and written extensively on the history of graphic design, including Nine Pioneers in American Graphic Design and Design and Science: The Life and Work of Will Burtin and has been reocgnized by the RIT Eisenhart Award for Outstanding Teaching and the Trustees Lifetime Achievement Award for Scholarship in Graphic Design.

Dirt cheap for how amazing this book is...

This book is absolutely incredible. There are older books out there I've wanted that cost $150+ that cover modernistic logos - but so glad I found this book. For $60 this book is a no brainer for any logo designer. Thousands and thousands of fantastic timeless forms for inspiration.

This book is huge, both in terms of volume of content and volume of the book itself. It's a serious tome! Would probably cause serious bodily harm if dropped on your foot.
