About the Author
Ken Matejka (J.D., LL.M in Taxation) has been a California attorney for 26 years and is a former-member of the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Lawyer Referral and Information Services. For 17 years, he worked at the Lawyer Referral and Information Service of the Bar Association of San Francisco and for many years there, as LRIS Operations Manager, he was chiefly responsible for advertising the LRIS, including actively managing its Google advertising. In 2007, he left the Bar Association of San Francisco to found a search engine advertising company dedicated to helping lawyers and lawyer referral services get more clients through Google advertising. After seven years there as its president and CEO, he moved on to launch the more specialized Matejka Marketing, Inc. (http://www.matejkamarketing.com). Ken has overseen the creation of numerous Google advertising and social media campaigns for law firms and bar associations, including the delivery of over 1 billion law-related ads in Google. As a CLE presenter, Ken has given many seminars and webinars for about 20 bar associations in six states on the topics of website lead-generation for lawyers and related ethical issues. Ken grew up in Rockford, Illinois and graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1985, he relocated to San Francisco to attend the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and he completed the masters in taxation program at New York University in 1989.

A masterpiece of common sense based on reality

I haven't read the entire book, but as one who's owned businesses and been involved with marketing for several decades, this book is like a breath of fresh air in comparison with the nonsense spewing from advertising agencies about "building your brand" and promoting your "image".
The chapter on "thin markets" is something every business owner, not just lawyers, should understand clearly and thoroughly. The money you save by being this smart will pay off hugely.

They don't teach this stuff in college marketing and advertising classes. Why? The profs can't teach what they don't know from first-hand experience.

I found it very useful. Every lawyer should read it before launching his website to have the basics in online marketing. At the same time the book gave lot of tips how to improve existing web presence, too. I especially liked the idea of "Online Ecosystem" that explains how your website and other online platforms, like Youtube, social media, etc. should work together. I wish I had read this book 5 years earlier!

Is there a 6 star rating? This book demystifies all things online marketing. Before reading it, I was overwhelmed by the regiment of tweaking the web site, grabbing cheesy stock photos, paying for Facebook likes, with no real goal anf all but ignoring other social media, including Google Plus! I finished it a week ago and now I feel like my IT guy and I speak the same language.
